Voltage regulation of transformer

2025-05-15

Electricity consumption fluctuates periodically, and there is often a huge difference between peak and trough periods, so on-load voltage regulation can effectively solve the problem of power supply stability.

Generally, there are two types of voltage regulation for transformers: three-position and five-position, and each position can adjust the voltage by 0.5kv. When installing the transformer, by changing the position of the tap contact, the number of turns of the transformer winding can be changed, thereby changing the output voltage.

The commonly used transformer primary voltage is 10kv and the secondary voltage is 0.4kv. The three-speed distribution transformer has a 10.5kv first gear, a 10kv second gear, and a 9.5kv third gear, and is usually in the 2nd gear position.

The operating steps for adjusting the tap changer are as follows:

       1. Cut off the power supply first, disconnect the transformer load, use an insulating rod to pull out the high-voltage drop-out fuse, then take                   necessary safety measures, unscrew the transformer tap changer protective cover, and place the positioning pin in the neutral position.

  1. When adjusting the gear position, adjust the tap changer to the corresponding position according to the output voltage. When the voltage is too low, adjust it to the low voltage gear position. When the voltage is too high, adjust it to the high voltage gear position.
  2. After adjusting the gear, use a DC bridge to measure the DC resistance of each phase winding to check whether the DC resistance between each winding is balanced. If the resistance difference between each phase is greater than 2%, it needs to be readjusted. Otherwise, the moving and static contacts will heat up or even discharge due to poor contact, damaging the transformer.

In daily operation, it is necessary to regularly monitor the operating status of the transformer, adjust the transformer gear in time, and improve electricity efficiency.
