Do you know the key steps for energizing a high-voltage switchgear?

2025-12-02

The energizing operation of high-voltage switchgear is a rigorous and systematic task, serving as the critical link in ensuring the safe commissioning of electrical equipment. This operation is far from a simple act of closing a circuit breaker; rather, it constitutes a standardized procedure grounded in safety regulations and adhering to a strict logical sequence. The following outlines its operational workflow.

1.Use the transfer cart to move the circuit breaker truck (or PT truck) in front of the cabinet. Raise the transfer cart to the appropriate height, insert its front locating lock plate into the slot on the cabinet's middle partition, and lock the transfer cart to the cabinet. To insert the truck into the cabinet, simultaneously pull both left and right handles of the truck to Handle Position II, then push the truck smoothly into the test position of the Switchgear. Next, simultaneously push both handles outward to Handle Position I to securely lock the truck's advancing mechanism to the switchgear. After confirming the truck is locked to the cabinet, disengage the transfer cart lock and move the cart away.

2.Insert the truck's secondary plug into the secondary socket of the switchgear and secure it with the fastener.

3.Close the switchgear's rear door (cable compartment door) and front door (circuit breaker compartment door). Open the earthing switch operating shutter, use the earthing switch operating handle (rotate 90° counterclockwise) to open the earthing switch, withdraw the handle, and close the operating shutter. Confirm the earthing switch is in the open position.

4.Check that the control, closing, signaling, AC, and bus voltage power switches (or secondary fuses) in the instrument compartment are in the ON position. Verify that the supply voltage is within the normal range, then close the instrument compartment door.

5.Perform one close and one open operation on the circuit breaker (which is in the test position of the switchgear) using either the local or remote control mode. Confirm that the wiring of the circuit breaker control circuit and the indication of the signaling circuit are correct.

6.Insert the truck advancing crank into the operation hole on the truck's center panel. Turn it clockwise to move the truck into the working position within the switchgear (a distinct "click" sound will be heard when the truck reaches the working position). Remove the advancing crank.

7.Use either the local or remote control mode to close the circuit breaker (which is now in the working position within the switchgear).

8.Check that all three-phase indicators (A, B, C) on the switchgear's live line indicator are illuminated, confirming the switchgear is now energized at high voltage. Measure or observe the bus voltage and outgoing line current displayed by the microprocessor-based protection device to ensure they are within normal ranges.
