Analysis of PT cabinet and metering cabinet
The PT cabinet in the power system plays a key role. It is like a precise voltage converter, which converts the voltage of the high-voltage system into a safe voltage that can be used by measurement and protection devices. The core equipment in the cabinet includes voltage transformers, protection fuses and lightning arresters, which together form a complete voltage monitoring and protection system.
As a core component, the voltage transformer works similarly to a transformer, which can convert thousands of volts of high voltage into a standard 100V or 220V low voltage signal. This conversion not only provides a safe working voltage for various measuring instruments, but also provides the necessary voltage signal for relay protection devices. The fuse acts as a safety guard, cutting off the circuit in time under abnormal conditions to protect the voltage transformer from damage. The existence of the lightning arrester effectively prevents the damage of lightning strikes and operating overvoltage to the equipment.

In terms of structural design, the PT cabinet adopts a modular armored structure and is equipped with a large observation window, which allows operators to grasp the equipment status at any time. Its unique primary and secondary circuit separation design not only ensures safe operation, but also facilitates maintenance and repair. Some PT cabinets also adopt a trolley structure, which further improves the convenience of equipment maintenance.
Measuring cabinet
The metering cabinet is an important device used for electric energy metering in the power system. Its core function is to accurately record the use of electric energy. The main configurations in the cabinet include high-precision voltage transformers, current transformers and special electric energy meters. These devices work together to ensure the accuracy of electric energy metering.
Unlike PT cabinets, metering cabinets pay more attention to the accuracy and reliability of data. The internal metering transformer has a higher level of accuracy, and the electric energy meter adopts a tamper-proof design and is equipped with a special lead seal for the power department. This strict management measure ensures the authenticity of the metering data and provides a reliable basis for electricity bill settlement.
In terms of structure, metering cabinets are usually fixed and equipped with eye-catching live displays. In some areas, metering cabinets are also equipped with dedicated metering rooms to physically isolate metering equipment from other equipment to further ensure metering safety.
Main Differences
From the perspective of functional positioning, PT cabinets focus on system monitoring and protection, while metering cabinets focus on energy metering. This difference is directly reflected in the equipment configuration: PT cabinets must be equipped with lightning arresters to deal with overvoltage, and metering cabinets must be equipped with high-precision current transformers to ensure accurate measurement.
There are also significant differences in management authority. As a system protection device, the PT cabinet allows users to perform necessary maintenance operations; while the meter cabinet, as the basis for electricity bill settlement, has management authority that belongs entirely to the power department and users are not allowed to operate without authorization.
The choice of installation location also reflects the functional differences between the two. PT cabinets are usually installed on the main busbar to serve the entire power system; metering cabinets are installed at the user's receiving end to record the power consumption of specific users. This layout not only meets the system monitoring needs, but also achieves accurate metering.
